    Nilofar Sakhi Founder and Chairperson of WASSA


    Nilofar Sakhi is an Afghan peace, human rights, and women's rights activist. She was the chief executive director of the International Center for Afghan Women's Economic Development (ICAWED) at the American University of Afghanistan and former country director of open society Afghanistan (OSA). She is the chairperson and co-founder of Women Activities and Social Services Association (WASSA).

    Aziz Rafiee was born in Kabul and obtained his Master of Engineering degree from Kabul University. He switched from the technical field to social issues in the 1990s and began working with civil institutions, in particular human rights groups and human rights defenders, concentrating on victims.

    Doctor Soraya Sobhrang, was born 1958 in Herat. After her secondary education, she completed her higher education in the faculty of medicines, Kabul University. 
    Dr. Sobhrang, who, as a Commissioner is now in charge of womens rights protection and development, is making effort to give emphasis to the following issues:The nature and form of womens human rights violation should be monitored, serious attention should be paid to the elimination of all forms of violence against women, women should achieve the right to get access to justice and judicial organs, institutions and networks should be established to advocate womens rights.

    Said Abdul Qader Rahimi is currently the area director of Afghanistan Independent Human Right Commission (AIHRC). He has studied engineering at Kabul University. 
    Mr. Rahimi become the first science instructor in Herat Pedagogy Institute right after the establishment of institute and also, he become the first chairperson of Fine Arts department of Herat University. After a decade of teaching, he started working with United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees.
    When AIHRC established in 2002 in Herat Province, Mr. Rahimi interested to apply and chosen as area director of AIHRC. He is member of Herat athenaeum and calligraphists directorate. He has published three scoffing collections which all of them awarded the best scoffing prize by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Information and Culture. Since 2003 he become the board member of WASSA until now.

    Sakina Hossaini is a brave woman who were with Nilofar Sakhi from the early days of WASSA establishment. She was involved in all WASSA’s women rights advocacies and movement. She was the voice of thousands of marginalized women in Herat. She holds bachelor degree on political and law from Ishraq University and has been two-time representatives of her people at Herat provincial council. She is the founder and chairperson of Shogofa women social cultural club. She has been in many external delegations as representative of Herat women, her last trip was in USA under IVLP (International Visitor Leadership Program) exchange program.

    Ghulam Sakhi Khatibi has bachelor degree on political and law and has been serving the Afghan government for 25 years. He has been serving as official political diplomate to Afghanistan consulate in Turkey and Turkmenistan. And now working as consulate office in charge of Herat province under ministry of Foreign, he was with WASSA since the beginning and had done his best effort to register the organization in ministry of economy in a time where women led organizations were rare and few in Afghanistan. He had helped Nilofar Sakhi with his good advises how to nurturing the organization towards its vision.

    Tahera Popal is psychologist, graduated from Kabul University. She is symbol of great teacher who had conducted underground education classes for 100 children in her house during Taliban Regime. After Taliban Regime, she had joined UNICEF as Teacher of Trainer for 3 years. From 2004 to 2007 she worked as a head of monitoring to Afghanistan Independent Human Right Commission (AIHRC) and worked on people’s voice report which was one of the important report of AIHRC since last decade. After 2007 until now she joined UNAMA as human right specialist. She is a perfect model of women right advocate and a well-known person in western zone provinces.

    Prof. Enayaullah Enayat had been graduated from psychology and educational science department of Kabul University. He was one of the first scientific professor assigned in Herat university at 1996. From back then up now, he has thought psychology subjects in many departments of Herat university as like department literature, fine arts, and sharia law.

    Prof. Enayat is also an active member of Herat University scientific councils. He is the head of Discipline Committee in Education Faculty, and a member of Peace Committee at Herat University.
    Prof. Enayat has received many appreciation awards from Minister of Higher Education, Universities, and IAM organization regarding his hard work, dedication to psychology department and endless efforts & services which he has done for youths and Afghan society. Prof. Enayat has become the advisory board member of WASSA since the beginning of the organization and he was the one who has set psychosocial strategic objectives within the organization which made WASSA to implement big grants in psychosocial issues.

WASSA, since its birth as the NGO for the People of Afghanistan, established in (2002), has offered innovative social, legal and development assistance to the community. WASSA since establishment with the assistance of community and applying local resources addressed the needs of the communities for those who were interested to help.
