On November 20, 2019 the Korea Ambassador Mr. Rhee Zha-hyoung with UNHCR high delegation visited WASSA’s women-only Café Net and psycho-social services counseling in Jebraeel town.
During his visit, he communicated with beneficiaries of women-only Café Net in Jebraeel and questioned about their achievements and challenges. The participants appreciated the cooperation of UNHCR and partners for providing such opportunities in far districts of Herat. They added about the great facilities such as (free Internet, free ICDL class, access to the library, having free Psycho-social sessions and Hygiene Promotion programs) which are provided for them in order to improve their skills.
The Korea Ambassador wished more success for each individual and promised to keep the Korean people’s assistance continued for Afghan people.
On 22nd October 2019, the Women Activities and Social Services Association (WASSA) with the support of UNHCR was delighted to inaugurate its second branch of Girls’ Café Net and Psycho-social counseling services in Jebraeel town. The program started with recitation of Holy Quran by one of the café net students, then Mr. Said Wase Sayedi WASSA’s Executive Director had his remarks regarding WASSA activities and its remarkable achievements during 18 years of working, right after Mr. Sayedi’s speech, Ms. Sakina Hussaini Provincial Council Member expressed her deepest appreciation to WASSA board and the efforts of the management team about such effective accomplishment in far districts of Herat Province.
Ms. Anisa Sarwari Head of Women Affairs was the next speaker who had a brief speech about the importance of technology in youth’s life, in-addition she mentioned the advantages of having the psyco-social programs in Jebrail district in which it shows the efforts of WASSA.
At the end, the program ended up by cutting the ribbon in a good and suitable way. It is worth of saying that the center is open for students and clients from Sunday to Thursday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM in both Café Net and Psycho-social services.
WASSA was honored to host Swedish Ambassador in Afghanistan Mr. Tobias Thyberg along with other officials from Swedish embassy on Sunday 28th October 2018 at WASSA main office. The purpose of their visit was to see the organization’s activities and operations under UNHCR fund. The delegation meets several beneficiaries at code 4 fun and women only net café centers. The young girls in each center have shared their experiences, future ideas and happiness to the ambassador, and in return the ambassador promised to continue their mutual support and cooperation for the development of human rights in Afghanistan. Women only net café was established in June 2015 by initiation of WASSA with the support of UNHCR for the purpose of delivering computer and internet base services for returnee and IDPs girls and women. Code 4 fun is another component of youth/women empowerment project funded by UNHCR since October 2017, to deliver web logging, coding and creating android application courses for returnee and IDPs girls and women.
Worth to mentioned that 7953 girls and women have received “women only net café and code 4 fun services” since establishment of mentioned centers in mid-2015.
Code4Fun is one of UNHCR’s “Youth/Women Empowerment” project component which were started as of October 2017. The students under this component receive coding and web-designing training to develop Mobile Apps based on Afghan society and demands. In this way they can either earn money by selling their Apps to the market or can help people at their community based on the nature of their Apps and its components.
The Women Only Net Café was inaugurated in 2015 by financial support of UNHCR under Youth/Women Empowerment project. In this net café, women and girls can have free access to internet, 5000 books, ICDL/graphic classes and repair their computers technically the idea of establishing the women only net café comes when few girl’s passwords were hacked in public café net and were treated for sexual abuse.
