As part of the project named “SI Alignment: Social reintegration for returnees and internally displaced persons, Economic prospects for host communities in West Afghanistan”, WASSA established a Peace Library in Rabat Sangi - Herat with over 50 titles of peace books and a comfortable environment for youth and children to improve their peace knowledge. During the project lifecycle, the youth club will voluntarily run the library. After the project is completed, the community will provide a proper place for the library. The club plans to host up to 2,000 book recipients over the course of 4 years. WASSA believes that peace necessitates people expanding their friendship with peace books.
WASSA empowered 866 young peace leaders in Farah and Herat provinces as part of the “SI Alignment: Social Reintegration for Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons, Economic Prospects for Host Communities in West Afghanistan” project by conducting trainings on peacebuilding, human and civil rights, conflict resolution, and communication. Through a wide ranging number of peace activities from awareness-raising to conflict mediation, the leaders then voluntarily started to foster peace within their own communities. They also began an unprecedented series of dialogues with the community elders dubbed "intergenerational dialogues," with the goal of improving youth participation in local decision-making processes. In addition, they established a child protection network aimed at families in order to improve children's safety. Some of the multipliers are now much more involved in club activities. WASSA is committed to assisting multipliers throughout the project ’s lifecycle and beyond.
WASSA also trained over 1200 peace leaders in Ghor, Badghis, and Herat through its partners (WISE and RSDO), who are voluntarily promoting peace in their own communities.
