On March 12, 2019, the Women Activities & Social Services Association “WASSA”, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), celebrated 8th March (the International Women’s Day). The ceremony began with the presence of a number of government representatives, civil society activists, heads of local and international NGOs, and media. The theme for this year’s celebration was (Think equal, build smart, innovate for a change), Mr. Said Wase Sayedi (WASSA executive director) highlighted the women’s efforts at the policy level and enthusiast women to fulfill key positions to help more women and girls at district and villages level. In addition to the esteemed speakers, the internally displaced girls (who were WASSA’s direct beneficiaries) were asked to read their own poems and articles (related to the world’s women’s day) for the audience. And also, the RAWI theater team had few minutes of live theater show on the subject of Afghan women’s current challenges. The ceremony ended with Eng. Sayed Abdul Qader Rahimi the Provincial Chancellor of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission summing up speeches.
Besides the ceremony, WASSA had organized an exhibition program with coordination of Internally displaced women and girls’ various groups (who were UNHCR’s other partner direct beneficiaries on vocational training) to exhibit their handcrafted products for participants and the participants bought these handheld products to show their further support and motivations.
