Crafting a New Future: Zahra’s Digital Leap Through WEE/WASSA/UN-Women

Zahra, a 40-year-old woman from a family of six, has spent more than 30 years mastering the art of carpet handcrafting. For decades, Zahra poured her heart and soul into her work, creating beautiful, traditional carpets by hand — a skill passed down through generations. But despite her exceptional talent, Zahra struggled to expand her market and grow her income.
Everything changed when Zahra participated in the WEE project of WASSA, supported by UN Women. Through this program, she received vital training in business development and, most importantly, learned modern marketing strategies, including digital and online marketing. For Zahra, gaining digital marketing skills was a turning point. She quickly adapted to using social media platforms and launched her own website, opening her business to a broader audience.
Today, Zahra is not only an accomplished craftswoman but also a successful entrepreneur. She runs her own workshop and has created job opportunities for many other women in her community. Thanks to her active online presence, Zahra has attracted many new customers, both locally and internationally, and her income continues to grow steadily.
“I am very thankful to WASSA and the WEE project,” Zahra says. “Learning digital marketing gave me a new life — it allowed me to connect my art with the world.”
Zahra ’s journey is a true testament to the power of education, innovation, and determination. She is a proud example of how women, with the right support and knowledge, can transform their lives, uplift their communities, and lead with strength and confidence.
